Correction Policy

Khasokhas strives for nimble, accurate, and complete news reporting. We endeavor to promptly correct errors in material published on digital platforms. When we issue a correction or clarification, our goal is to clearly and quickly inform readers about the mistake and provide the correct information. It is important that anyone can understand how and why a correction has been made.

Our individual pieces of journalism evolve as we refine and improve them, which is expected by our readers in the digital age. Unless there is a specific reason to indicate the addition of new information or other changes, it is unnecessary to include notes stating that a story has been updated; the time stamp informs readers that they are reading a developing story. However, whenever we make a significant correction, it is necessary to use a correction or clarification to inform readers.

If we are substantially correcting an article, photo caption, headline, graphic, video, or any other material, we should promptly publish a correction that explains the change.

When our journalism is factually accurate, but the language used to explain the facts is not clear or detailed enough, the language should be rewritten, and a clarification should be added to the story. A clarification can also be used to acknowledge that we initially failed to seek a comment or response, which has now been added to the story, or that new reporting has altered our account of an event.

A correction that questions the entire substance of an article, raises a significant ethical matter, or addresses whether an article failed to meet our standards may require an editor’s note, followed by an explanation of the issue. The addition of an editor’s note to a story must be approved by a senior editor.

When a reader discovers an error and posts it in the comment stream, the audience engagement team should acknowledge in the comments that the error has been corrected. If we have disseminated incorrect information in an alert, we should issue a subsequent alert informing people that the earlier report was erroneous and provide them with accurate information. When we publish erroneous information on social networks, we should correct it on the respective platform. We do not assign blame to individual reporters or editors (e.g., “due to a reporting error” or “due to an editing error”), but we may note that an error occurred as a result of a production problem or because incorrect information was received from a trusted source.

Given that our published content can be easily searched and retrieved online, even years after publication, we are increasingly receiving requests to remove (“unpublish”) articles from our website.

As an editorial policy, we do not grant take-down requests without thorough evaluation at the highest level. If a subject claims that a story is inaccurate, we should be prepared to investigate and, if necessary, publish a correction. There may also be situations where fairness requires an update or follow-up coverage, such as reporting that a person was charged with a crime but not reporting that the charges were later dismissed due to lack of evidence.

In summary, our response will be to consider whether further editorial action is warranted but not to remove the article as if it had never been published. When we publish publicly available personal data, we will only review takedown requests if the person involved is under threat of physical harm due to the existence of the material.
